Lightly is made from plants and waste. The frame is made from castor beans, a renewable, carbon hungry plant which is turned into our high performance polymer. The seat is made from post-consumer recycled waste giving another life to a great material.

Lightly only uses what planet-friendly material is necessary. Efficient stacking shrinks Lightly's shipping footprint, and we make each chair using 82% renewable electricity in New Zealand.

Lightly is designed by Formway, a research-based design studio recognised for their clever insights into human physiology and behaviour and emphasis on sustainable design.

Extensive user and expert interviews, video observation and white paper research informed the key drivers for Lightly; more and more people living smaller and busier and greener.

Lightly evolved through rigorous and unique prototyping and testing in the Formway lab in Wellington. Lightly’s design process was focused around physical prototypes and virtual testing to understand how little material could be used to create an incredibly strong and efficient product.
