Form, Function & Sustainability: Noho’s Lightly Chairs at AGI Open

For the first time in 2023, Auckland, New Zealand hosted the prestigious AGI Open, bringing together leading creatives from across the globe. As a platform for sharing insights, debating industry trends, and showcasing creative work through talks and exhibitions, the event emphasises the cultural impact of design over commercial interests. To officially close the event, a formal Gala Dinner was held at Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki—where our Lightly chairs played a key role.

Featuring over 30 design leaders from across the globe, attendees engaged in thought-provoking discussions with industry icons such as Paula Scher (Pentagram), Kenya Hara (Hara Design Institute), Liza Enebeis (Studio Dumbar), and Nikki Gonnissen (Studio Thonik). The event also included a satellite exhibition at Objectspace, reinforcing its focus on pushing creative boundaries and fostering dialogue within the design community.

To officially mark the end of the AGI Open 2023, a formal Gala Dinner was held at Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki. Guests enjoyed a private viewing of the gallery’s Romancing the Collection exhibition, followed by a seated dinner—featuring Noho’s Lightly chairs. Lightly chairs were selected to support the strong New Zealand design narrative that played a key role in the event.

Designed by Formway, Lightly has earned five prestigious awards since its 2023 launch, including Dezeen Awards Furniture Design of the Year and the Green Good Design Award for sustainability. Its lightweight, stackable design and ergonomic support for various postures make the chair ideal for large gatherings like this.

The Lightly chairs effortlessly complemented the elegant surroundings of Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki. Their refined design makes them just as at home in an art gallery or formal dining setting as they are around a kitchen table.
